Choosing A Bargain Used Caravan

Nothing beats being able to up and leave whenever you feel like getting away from the toil of everyday life. The possibilities are vast, there are many caravan sites around, some of them in very sought after beauty spots which will only add to your holiday experience.

A caravan vacation is very cost effective, but if you want to buy your own caravan then you will need to fork out much larger sums of money. So many people search for used caravans for sale to help them get onto the caravan band wagon and there are a few things that you need to look out for.

The most obvious thing to observe is the general condition of the caravan, if it looks in a state of bad repair then it's probably going to need some work on other parts as well. It's quite possible that you may want to repaint your caravan anyway so a bit of missing paint is no big deal, as long as there is no major bodywork rust.

You can look online at advertising websites as well as in local papers and magazines for static caravans for sale and when you have found some that appeal to you, the next task is to arrange a viewing session. You should make sure that you inspect the interior of the caravan and make sure that it's in reasonable condition. Often the seats are worn in second hand caravans although this need not be a major concern as it won't be too expensive to have the fabric replaced, or even replace the seats from a caravan that is being scrapped.

Make sure that you test out all of the appliances within the caravan, especially the electrics, if possible you want to have the caravan connected up so you can test that all the electrics work properly, as this can be a real pain to sort out not to mention expensive. Make a check of the other fitted amenities and ensure everything is working and in good order.

If everything in the interior checks out ok then give it a thorough inspection outside. Check the general condition of the body and paint work, with particular attention to any rust patches or damage. Small areas of bad metal can easily be remedied. You should also check the construction of the walls, are they stapled together or sealed with glue also? They need to be sealed properly to keep the water out, resealing it yourself can be done, but preferably avoided.

When you go to view a caravan, take a lamp along with you so that you can do a proper inspection of the underneath as this is critical. Check the condition of the wheels as well, tyres are easily replaced so don't worry if they are worn. The most important thing is that the metal frame underneath is structurally sound otherwise you could be looking at some expensive repairs.

Pay attention also to the towing hook to make sure it's all in great condition.

There are lots of used caravans for sale so don't think you have to jump at the first one you see if it's not exactly what you're looking for, but on the other hand don't miss out on a bargain!
